Happy New Year, you guys!

Hope you had a safe Eve Party and are excited about starting 2019. I’m super duper excited! This year feels different than New Years of the past—I know that sounds cliché, but so much change is happening this year and I’m over the moon about it. Here’s a wish that 2019 will be full of fun, happiness, and growth. I’m genuinely stoked that 2019 is here!

For those of you who did not read my last post, I am taking a break from social media platforms for one year. To see all my reasons, click here. This is a personal decision, and I’m not asking that everyone do the same as me. This is an experiment to see how much I can learn in a whole year with all the extra time a break from social media gives me. If you want to stay in touch you can find me on Marco Polo, the comments section of this blog, or on Pinterest @mrswernerwrites. (Working on opening a Youtube channel, too. It’s been a dream of mine for years!)

The point of leaving social media sites is to live a more fulfilling and realer life without the pressure to post every moment of my life. I’ve been referencing my bucket list, and this is the year I’m doing life. I don’t have crazy schemes to jump out of air planes or see Paris (though I’m not opposed to the idea.) My bucket list includes researching topics I’ve wanted to study, things I’ve wanted to cook, books I’ve wanted to read, things I’ve wanted to do, and ways I can challenge myself. This is the year! I hope you are intrigued enough to follow along and see what happens when a person lives without social media.

The first event I have decided to do is a year-long challenge I’m inviting YOU to participate in (don’t worry, I’m not asking you to give up social media….maybe.) It’s called the No Re-Post Challenge. Here is what it’s about….

I discovered that in my daily journal the calendar portion lists national remembrance days like pie day, pi day, and friendship day, and national donuts day. They are silly and whimsical, but I’ve decided to do something special for each of them. They don’t have to be expensive or elaborate. The goal of this challenge is to selflessly love on other people without asking for social media attention in return. There is a complete list of the national remembrance days below with dates. Write them down!

Here are the rules:

  1. Once, sometimes twice, a month set time aside to get creative (see dates below.) Example: on National Taco Day take tacos to your husband’s office. Example: on National Sibling Day send each of your sibling’s little mementos or mail them pictures from your childhood. On National Donut Day, take a box of jelly filled decadent donuts to the police department.
Be creative, spontaneous, quirky, and thoughtful.
  2. Secondly, once you’ve done your good deed, take a picture but DO NOT post what you did to social media. This is a gift to yourself. A time to do something 100% self-less. Do something nice and memorable without asking for re-shares, likes, or attention. Instead head on over to…
  3. Mrs. Werner Writes.com and find the comments section on the latest post. Tell me what your good deed was for the month, what their response was, how it made you feel, and you will be entered to win a three-piece journaling set at the end of the year! The best story wins!

This is a challenge focusing on building relationships without technology. But I want to do it with other people because that’s the point.

So, here we go. (I’ve included a few obscure holidays as well.) Mark your calendars and start thinking of ways to love on others during these national remembrance days:
